You can't do one thing; you must do all things at once. Do everything, but don't insert yourself into what you are doing.
~ Richard Rose
TAT Founder Richard Rose advised seekers to become a vector—to marshal the energy and activity of one's life, and direct that toward the discovery of the Answer. To be sure, in the beginning stages of the spiritual path, the individual may accrue some benefit from the search, finding him- or herself "riding easier in the saddle." Yet at some point, the seeker may intuit that he or she—the ego—is what's in the way. To seek the Truth as an egoless vector, then, would involve the continued application of effort toward making that discovery, "without fear of failure or hope of gain," without anything for the separate sense of self.
Is it even possible for a seeker to expedite this change of being (egolessness)? If so, how? Come explore with others how we might apply (or become) this advice. Let us open our hearts and minds to find ways forward. Please join us in a virtual gathering where seekers as well as finders may help each other, while sharing their stories, their successes, their struggles. We aspire to foster an environment where the bonds of true friendship and spiritual community will be formed and renewed.
The virtual event, which includes both audio and video, is being offered for a minimal fee of $35 for TAT members and $40 for non-members. If possible, please consider donating a larger amount (the drop-down menu below has options ranging from $60 to $80). Your generosity will help defray the many costs incurred in preparing the new TAT Center. We deeply appreciate your support!
The registration deadline for TAT's Virtual Spiritual Gathering is Friday, June 12.
Meet our featured presenters:
Dan McLaughlin
Dan had a heart-opening, mystical experience at age 7 or 8. Even at such an early age, he was desperate. In his thirties, after 11 years of solo spiritual seeking, he wrote to a teacher: "I've read hundreds of books, I've chased authors over the country, I've taken single point of concentration meditation as far as it can go." His correspondence opened the door to the subtractive path, and to the Gainesville Philosophical Self-Inquiry Group, where he discovered the true meaning of spiritual friendship. During that time, he applied aspects of Richard Rose's psychological system.
Dan's seeking culminated in a series of realizations, in which he knew he didn't exist and wept for the Dan that never was: "If he didn't exist he ought to have, he tried so hard, somebody should have loved him." As the experience unfolded, he knew he was of the light—it struck him as god as if he knew that. Moments later, in the final unraveling, he knew he was dying, and he realized "the dark experience of I am nothing, Dan never existed or happened, everything was true but the dark didn't define Truth and neither did the light."
After his realization, numerous psychological and physical healings occurred among those who met Dan, although he adamantly opposes promoting himself as a healer or a teacher.
Dan currently lives in Inverness, Florida, where he co-owns a medical business. He lives with his dog, Hailey, and intermittently co-facilitates spiritual retreats with Art Ticknor. To filter out all but the most serious seekers, they charge almost nothing for their retreat fees.
Shawn Pethel
Shawn began his search for answers at 3 years old, upon discovering that he could question his own thoughts. He lived an otherwise normal childhood until age 16, when he had a profound mystical experience that opened his heart. As a young man, he stumbled upon the literature of enlightenment and sought out various seeker groups until finding a home at the TAT Foundation in 2007. Through TAT he made many new friends and met wonderful teachers to help him on his way. After 7 years and a series of insights, he had a realization that answered all questions and ended his seeking.
Shawn lives in North Alabama with his wife, two sons, and two cats.
Additionally, the event includes:
Breakout sessions for group inquiry facilitated by Bob Fergeson, Norio Kushi, and Paul Rezendes.
Our popular seeker session, with seekers who have come forward, willing to share their stories, trials, and triumphs. They will share their personal stories, tips, and discoveries on the spiritual path.
Breakout group workshop on Richard Rose's teachings.

What is the TAT Foundation?
A group encouraging people to think rather than believe. A group determined to help people find ways and means to answer their deepest philosophical questions. A gathering of friends who are not afraid to be honest with one another. An island of hope and sanity (or at least the hope for sanity!). Last, but not least, TAT is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization chartered in 1973.
