"The truth will set you free. But not until it is finished with you."
- David Foster Wallace, author.
"Self-awareness involves deep personal honesty. It comes from asking and answering hard questions."
- Stephen Covey.
"If you could admit that you've been kidding yourself—the ultimate form of self-honesty—that you will live and die in ignorance — because there is NO HOPE for you — just where WOULD that leave you?
What would you do then?"
- Bob Cergol https://tatfoundation.org/forum2002-04.htm.
Welcome to TAT's annual June event at our home in North Carolina. Since its founding in 1973 by Richard Rose, TAT has sponsored numerous events that offer a remarkable gathering of seekers, finders, and friends. We hope to see all of you at the TAT Center for a weekend of both celebration and contemplation, as we explore Honesty on the Spiritual Path.
Meet our featured presenters:
Art Ticknor
Art worked firsthand with numerous psychological and philosophical systems during years of intensive research. Twenty-six years of effort toward self-definition paid off in 2004, when the final nail was driven into the ego's coffin during an intense Realization. Art is the author of the books Beyond Relativity, Solid Ground of Being, and Sense of Self: The Source of All Existential Suffering?, invaluable guides on the quest for self-knowledge. Art currently lives the life of la dolce far niente and is involved in the Gainsville Florida-based Philosophical Self-Inquiry Discussion Group. For more information, visit Self-Discovery Portal.
Bob Cergol
Bob was 19 when he met Richard Rose in 1972. He lived with Rose at his house in Benwood, WV, and on Rose's farm. Twenty years later, he moved away to pursue his life. He married and started a family, but soon gravitated back to the path. TAT group work led to a series of events that triggered a spiritual realization that brought Bob an absolute, final answer. Over the past decade, Bob has delivered a number of presentations during TAT events and has authored numerous TAT Forum essays that were ultimately published in Beyond Mind, Beyond Death, a TAT Foundation Press book. Listen to his story in a podcast interview on SpiritualTeachers.org.
Doug White
"I was in high school in the 1980’s when I started questioning what was the truth and what was really going on. That led me to read books on Zen and philosophy. Still searching, I ended up in graduate school in Physics. During that time I met TAT Founder Richard Rose, and based on his suggestion to work with other seekers, I got involved in the Raleigh Self Knowledge Symposium (SKS) and TAT. I’ve been a member of the Raleigh Triangle Inquiry Group for the past 23 years."
Luke Roberts
Luke has been a seeker for many years, and worked with various traditions, groups, and practices. He discovered TAT in 2007 and felt he'd found his spiritual home. He continues to be involved with TAT and friends in the greater TAT network.
Dan McLaughlin
For 12 years Dan McLaughlin was a solitary seeker until in 2011 he discovered TAT. He learned about Art Ticknor on the related spiritualteachers.org website. A few months later he says he hit a point of stark self-honesty and needed help. Dan says he felt “as if I'm up to my hips in ‘the ocean’ and I'm either turning back to shore or walking into the ocean to drown." Dan and Art met and Art introduced Dan to Bob Fergeson, another spiritual friend and teacher. In 2017 Dan McLaughlin's search ended with the realization of his Source. When asked to describe their experience of Dan, Art Ticknor noted that Dan is a dynamic combination of intuitive and psychic. Bob Fergeson said Dan’s ability to convey what he's found in the spiritual realm through writing and conversation is at times uncanny, and always right on the mark.
A wide variety of our frequent lineup of TAT teachers, authors, presenters, photographers, and filmmakers will also be available for informal discussion throughout the weekend.
There will be a Silent Rapport Sitting, Group Meditation Sessions, and Group Inquiry, Nature Walks and More...

What is the TAT Foundation?
A group encouraging people to think rather than believe. A group determined to help people find ways and means to answer their deepest philosophical questions. A gathering of friends who are not afraid to be honest with one another. An island of hope and sanity (or at least the hope for sanity!). Last, but not least, TAT is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization chartered in 1973.
